Expressions of Song

Expressions of Song is an all-German program, absent of traditional Lieder. The musical program highlights the intimate nature of chamber music and cabaret style songs as well as the hedonistic nature of performing such repertoire. The first portion of the program was dedicated to German chamber music, and featured violinst, Lydia Sewell, clarinetist, Luke Campayno, and collaborative pianist, Karen Jeng Lin. Chamber music selections included rarely performed pieces, such as two selections from George Frideric Händel’s, “Neun deutsche Arien” and John Sobeck’s, “Meine Heimat.” The second portion of the program featured dancer and choreographer, Kristina Jaczesko as Anna II in excerpts of Kurt Weill’s Die Sieben Tödsunden. The program ended with songs Kurt Weill wrote as propaganda during World War II to support the cause against the Nazi regime.
